Country: Germany
Designed as a response to Allied fighters during the First World War, the Albatros D.V was the final expression of a design that started with the D.I in the late summer of 1916.

Arguably the best Allied fighter of World War I, the British Sopwith Snipe was the successor to the famous Sopwith Camel.
Northrop P-61B Black Widow

The first American aircraft specifically designed for the night fighter role, Northrop's P-61 served in both the European and Pacific theaters in 1943.
