Climbing the heights of a mesa green with trees in 550 A.D., hunter-gathers found a plateau rich in water, soil, and wood. This mesa became the site of numerous thriving villages. By 1300 A.D., however, the Ancestral Puebloans mysteriously left their lands, leaving behind an exceptional architectural and cultural heritage.
