ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND PHOTOGRAPHER

Chris Heisey's interest in Civil War began in a small classroom where an inspiring second-grade teacher encouraged him to read and study our nation's tragic past. Some thirty-five years later, his images have appeared in more than eighty publications worldwide, including America's Civil War, National Geographic Traveler, and The History Channel. He has earned several national merit citations and he has published more than 1,000 images. He has teamed with noted scholar Dr. Kent Gramm on several book projects, including Gettysburg: This Hallowed Ground, also published by Tide-mark Press. Passionate about saving our vanishing battlefields, he donates his work to The Civil War Preservation Trust, Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg, and other organizations that are heroically trying to protect our battlefields, which are constantly threatened by senseless urban sprawl. He lives with his wife and son near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he works as a photojournalist and writer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.
